What is Moldavite? Moldavite Meaning + History

As a Stone of Connectivity, Moldavite carries an intense frequency, a fusion of earthly and extraterrestrial energies that are quickly felt, often dramatically in those who resonate with its power. Holding Moldavite for the first time often produces a sensation of heat, felt first in the hand, then progressively throughout the body. Moldavite's frequency may take some getting used to, but its profound ability to accelerate one's personal and spiritual evolution makes it highly sought after in the metaphysical world

The only gem-quality mineral of galactic origin, moldavite is a tektite. A deep green stone sometimes found with gas bubble inclusions, this beautiful mineral was named in 1836 after the Moldau River in the Czech Republic, the location of a large deposit of moldavite. Most moldavite comes from the Czech Republic, where it rained down 15 million years ago after an asteroid split in two and collided with the earth. The resulting collision was so hot that it liquified the rock layer upon impact, and moldavite solidified from the molten rock and gases as they fell down through the atmosphere. The change from liquid to solid was so sudden that the atoms did not have time to create a crystalline structure. This is why moldavite has an amorphous structure (without any pattern), and is considered a mineraloid rather than a mineral.

Moldavite is highly prized for jewelry making, where it is often made into rings, earrings and pendants, and also for its metaphysical properties. It is said to offer a connection between the inhabitants of earth and the higher dimensional energies and vibrations of the celestial plane. As said in Love is in the Earth, moldavite “stimulates cooperation between those of extra-terrestrial origins and those who are experiencing life on Earth. It carries one beyond the mirage of life, to a home from which one has been absent, providing the image of eternity and the vision and energy to translate the image into reality.” As a result of the way it was formed, moldavite and tektites in general are considered a link between earth and the cosmos.

Moldavite is associated with the third eye, throat and crown chakras. It therefore can aid in strengthening intuition and vision, supports the ability to speak your truth, and promotes connection to the divine. It is said to pair well with quartz, which has the ability to amplify its energy and associated properties.

Moldavite has a rich history, prized since the Stone Age and used not only for arrowheads and cutting tools, but as a spiritual talisman and amulet of good fortune and protection. It was found in the archeological site of the Venus of Willendorf, the oldest known Goddess statue, and has been linked to legends of the Holy Grail, thought to be an emerald that fell from the sky out of Lucifer's crown before he was cast from Heaven. In Czech lore, it was given as a betrothal gift to bring harmony to marital relations, and for centuries has been used in jewelry, religious items and for spiritual transformation.

In addition to these specific properties of moldavite, it also carries the general properties of tektites. Tektites act to balance the masculine and feminine energies within oneself. They can also help increase your ability to receive transmissions. According to Love is in the Earth, “Information which is relevant to mundane activities can be transmitted as readily as that which is relevant to spirituality and advancement”, meaning that carrying a tektite on your person for daily activities can strengthen your ability to receive guidance about everyday matters as well as more ethereal matters.

Moldavite is an excellent gem for those desiring to strengthen their connection to their cosmic homeland, as well as those who wish to increase their ability to receive guidance. Wear some around your neck or carry it with you to help increase intuition and balance your personal masculine and feminine energies.
