Sacred Copal Smudge - Comes in a 1 Ounce Glass Vial with Cork Lid

I was introduced to Sacred Copal Resin when I was a Karma Yogi in Mexico, in a small ocean-side village called Mazunte. We cleansed our space daily with the smoke of the Copal Tree, used it in the morning alongside a singing bowl to awaken the students, and offered it to the deities during prayer. It is very, very dear to my heart.

Copal use stretches back thousands of years. The Otomi people “read” the copal’s smoke with the aid of a candle to diagnose disease; copal smudging is one of the most common practices in traditional medicine; the Lacandon people make offering bowls dedicated to a particular god(des) in which copal is burned, thus “feeding” the divine abode of such deities.

Copal, when burned, throws up a white smoke that the Native Mesoamericans associate with Iztacteteo, the “White Gods.” These gods, are thought to help in the communication between humans and the Great Mystery. The pillar of white smoke made by copal burning represents the cosmic axis out of which the universe and all its creatures emerged and acts as the connecting thread between the worlds, between heaven and earth. When you burn Copal, you are calling to the Heart Wisdom of all things and symbolizes the Mysterious center ever pulsating toward greater consciousness and connection.

Traditional Method of Burning Natural Incense:

Use a heat resistant dish such as one made from metal or ceramic.Fill about an inch from bottom of dish with sand or ash. Colored sand is also available for ritual and artistic use. Light a charcoal,, preferably the bamboo variety. Other charcoals, like ones for hookahs, that spark when lit, have toxic additives. Always use tongs or pliers to hold the coal when lighting. It is best to light the coal outside or holding under a stove-top vent. Once hot, place charcoal in prepared dish. It is always best to start by placing a small amount of incense upon the hot coal at first. We recommend no more than a pea size. Larger amounts of resin often produce a copious amount of smoke, perfect for use outdoors or in large halls, but are generally impracticable for use in most homes.

This might seem silly, but Please Note : Always use a heat proof container that is on a nonflammable surface and keep away from children, pets and flammable items.
